Gill Lusk first went to the Sudan in 1975 and taught English in Nyala in Southern Darfur, and El Kamlin in the Gezira. She worked at Sudanow magazine in Khartoum for around four years, and subsequently as a freelance journalist in the capital until 1987. She then became Deputy Editor of Africa Confidential newsletter until 2006. She now writes and broadcasts on the Sudans and related topics.
