Symposium and Annual General Meeting (AGM)

This year’s symposium will take place on Saturday 21 November 2026 at SOAS.

This year's symposium presentations will include:

  • Impact of War on Heritage – Ismail Hamid

  • The Nilerian Script – Mawan Muortat

  • Sudanese Anthropology in Exile from the War of 2023: a 2026 report from Cairo – Janice Boddy and Ellen Gruenbaum

  • Community Peace Carrier: the civil capital forged by war – Dr Mekki Elshibly

  • Sudan's Digital Paradox: digital food assistance as a tool for saving lives, exploitation, or waging war – Susanne Jaspers

  • Digital Rights and Justice – Asil Sidahmed and Alex Darby

  • History of German-Sudanese Relations – Roman Deckert

The symposium will also feature cultural performances.

The Symposium is open to all so please spread the word! The AGM is also open to all to attend, but only members may vote.
