SSSUK Annual Symposium and AGM 2019

SSSUK's Annual Symposium and AGM 2019 will take place in London on Saturday 7th September.

Venue: the Brunei Lecture Theatre, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Thornhaugh Street (off Russell Square), London WC1H 0XG.

Timings: Registration is from 9:15 to 10.15 and the Symposium will finish at 16:30.

Programme:
 
There will be a focus at the Symposium on the Sudanese Revolution. The programme will include:
  • The state of higher education in Sudan post 30th June 1989: Selma el Rayan and Asim Salem. Chairperson: Fergus Nicoll.

  • The Role of the Sudanese diaspora in the UK in the 19th December Revolution: Reflections, Challenges and the Way Forward: Amira Osman.

  • Sudanese Women's Aspirations and challenges for effective Political Participation (تطلعات المرأة السودانية وتحديات المشاركة السياسية الفعالة): Suad Musa.

  • ‘Fuel subsidy in South Sudan: Was it helpful?': August Ting Mayai.

  • Sara Ibrahim Abdelgalil: Health outbreaks in Sudan: social injustice that led to a political change. A story that has different versions.

  • Sara O. Beleil: Silence in Blue: Campaign against sexual violence used in Sudan to crackdown women’s resistance.

  • Nada Kamal SDU UK initiative Sudan Revolution Art as a project that can promote healing for Sudanese diaspora in UK following the Khartoum massacre.

  • Politics Panel: Rosalind Marsden: Challenges facing the new transitional government.
